Christmas Party 2025 at Simone de la Bastide's
The Magic of Christmas was very evident at the Garden Club of Trinidad’s Christmas party, 2025. The venue was exquisite! The approach to the home was via a long, tree and plant-lined, curved driveway that inclined gently to the house. The tropical architecture of the house blended beautifully with its impeccably landscaped surroundings — a mature garden with multiple areas of interest, and plants that made club members’ eyes pop out of their heads.
There were enormous Royal Palm trees, conjuring up our country’s colonial past, and variegated banana trees giving a nod to the trends of today. There were areas to sit and relax and areas to wander and imbibe nature in her full glory. One could get lost with a good book for a morning and enjoy every second of it! Tucked away, in a more private part of garden was a small pool. Submerged in the pool, at the shallow end, were two ornate chairs and a small table. Clearly a lot of fun was had here in the past and for certain more fun will continue to be had! This may or may not be due to the ample bar that adjoins the poolside. As the daylight faded the garden took on a magical atmosphere. The stage was set for a great garden party.
This year’s party was well patronized with over sixty of us attending. After some time to chat and settle, the president of the club, Dr. Gerard Farfan, said a few words of welcome to the guests and of thanks to the gracious hostess, Mrs. Simone De La Bastide. Guests were encouraged to dress festively, and they certainly stepped up to the challenge. Prizes were given for the most festive gent and lady. Dinner was served at 7:00, this was buffet-style with the catering done The Grape Vine (Emile and Maggie Wihby). The food was, in a word, delightful, and the servers very friendly and professional. Drinks flowed all evening. The bar staff were on point at all times. Music was by Mr. Larry Edghill, and as per usual enjoyed by all.
After dinner the little bit of child in each of us was allowed to surface with games like musical chairs and pass the bauble. Many laughs were had seeing the not-so-young membership taking part. This year donations were collected for projects at St. Ann’s Psychiatric Hospital. Mrs. Faith Gurly was presented with these donations by the president of the club, Dr. Gerard Farfan.
When all was said and done we all agreed that this year’s Garden Club Christmas party was a big success!
