Meeting at Sophia Dillon's Garden
Nestled between the hills of Trinidad’s delightful northern range is a lush valley, blessed with good soil and abundant rainfall. In this valley too, is the home and magical garden of Sophia Dillon. The venue of the Garden Club’s first meeting of 2025. Oh, what a meeting!
The meeting was extremely well attended by members of the club and a number of invited guests. All eager to see Sophia’s astounding collection of highly collectible plants. I can guarantee, no one was disappointed! Sophia, your garden is simply fantastic! Not only were there rare and wonderful specimens but all were so healthy and beautifully grown. The artistic positioning of different colours, textures, shapes and sizes was a lesson and inspiration for all of us. Sophia, you went above and beyond with your hospitality too. We thank you kindly.
Our speaker, the esteemed Roshni Ramsingh, delivered a talk on fertilizers, complimenting her previous talk, exactly 12 short months ago, on soil. Her presentation was excellent and we all learned a lot! I’m sure we will approach fertilizer in a more confident and informed manner. Roshni, thank you for sharing your knowledge and we look forward to having you back.
The show bench for January was mixed pots. There were a high number of entrants and judging was skillfully done by Chancy Moll and Lorraine Agostini. Congratulations to the three winners, Suzanne Gransaull, Sophia Dillon and Karen De Silva. Well done ladies. And thanks to all who took part.
Our host prepared a few surprises for the club too with prizes given for best themed dress and a few other categories. Lots of fun was had by all.
We all shared in some scrumptious finger foods and many were taken on an educational tour of the garden as the sun began to set on a wonderful evening.
The club’s next meeting will be on February 15th at Moira Hamel-Smith’s home at 3:30pm and the show bench will be succulents. Until next time…… HAPPY GARDENING!
